Twenty students and their educator at Virginia Episcopal School (VES) facilitated a weeklong Islam awareness event for 250 VES students and staff. In collaboration with the American International School in Gaza (AISG) in Palestine, the VES students – mostly Christians – decided they needed to tackle prejudices in their own community, specifically stereotyping of Islam. They collaborated with the Gaza partners to plan and execute this week, as the first step towards addressing the larger problem of discrimination and violence.
This student project was created as part of YouthTalk 2016, a youth virtual exchange program that connects students in the US and the Arab World. It is run by the Global Nomads Group, in partnership with Bridges of Understanding.
