The students at Skateistan Mazar in Mazar-e-Sharif, Afghanistan investigated the important issue of valuable education for street working kids in collaboration with View Park Preparatory Accelerated Charter High School (ICEF) in Los Angeles, California, USA. Together they created an awareness campaign about the problem, and the students have stated the following in regards to the issue and their project:
“We put together many ideas together for this project at first: women’s rights, children’s rights, environmental rights. After a small election program we have chosen to focus on street working kids. We recognized that they need a valuable education and we can involve them in sport activities. The goal is to find the roots of this phenomenon, and we hope this project helps to avoid kids working through their educational career. The target audience for this project was street working children and their families.”
This student project was created as part of Global Citizens in Action 2015-16, a youth virtual exchange program that connects students in the US, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. GCA is run by Global Nomads Group, in partnership with PEACE in Pakistan.
