Students of Al Hussan International School in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia investigated the issue of women's rights in the Middle East. They carried out a project called “Women's Wakening” in which they carried out a survey, researched, and collected information on women’s rights in their home countries. After brainstorming questions for the survey, each student conducted a survey interview with at least two to three women in their community. The goal of this survey was to find out firsthand information from the interviewees about women rights in their country based on what they knew and personally experienced. After the surveys were successfully carried out, the students, in collaboration with one another, complied all the responses and created a video based to document their work. At the end, the students at Al Hussan International School were able to make suggestions in response to some of the inequalities revealed by their interviewees.
This student project was created as part of Youth Talk program, a youth virtual exchange program that connects students in North America and the Middle East and North Africa. It is run by Global Nomads Group, in partnership with Bridges of Understanding.
